Kani Basami, infamously known as the 'Flying Scissors,' is a high-risk, high-reward sacrifice throw that involves scissoring the opponent's legs while falling to the side and rotating them to the mat. Due to its potential for causing serious leg injuries, Kani Basami is banned in most Judo and Jiu-Jitsu competitions, but it remains a part of the art's history and is still practiced in some traditional settings. To perform Kani Basami, establish a grip on the opponent's upper body. As you move forward, quickly jump and wrap one leg around the opponent's lead leg from the outside, while simultaneously using your other leg to scissor their leg from the inside. At the same time, fall to your side and use your upper body grips to pull the opponent down with you. The combination of the leg scissors and the rotational force can result in a powerful takedown. It is usually used as a last-ditch effort when all other options have been exhausted. Due to it's illegal nature and potentially serious injuries this technique should not be performed in training or competition.
