Kawazu Gake is a sacrifice throw that involves wrapping one leg around the opponent's leg from the inside while simultaneously throwing them backward. It is named after a type of Japanese frog known for its ability to jump and cling to objects. Like Kani Basami, Kawazu Gake is also banned in most Judo and Jiu-Jitsu competitions due to the potential for causing leg injuries, but it is still practiced in some traditional contexts. To perform Kawazu Gake, establish a grip on the opponent's upper body. As you move forward, quickly wrap one leg around the opponent's leg from the inside, hooking it tightly. Simultaneously, use your upper body grips to pull the opponent backward and off-balance while falling to your back or side. The combination of the leg wrap and the pulling action creates a powerful takedown. The kawazu gake is applied in a manner that applies significant pressure to the opponents knee joint, hence the usual ban from competition. Like the previously discussed technique this throw should be avoided.
