Ko Uchi Makikomi, often translated as 'Minor Inner Winding Throw,' is a sacrifice throw that combines the reaping action of Ko Uchi Gari with a winding or wrapping motion to take the opponent down. It is typically executed by stepping inside the opponent's stance and using your leg to reap their near leg while simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body and falling to the mat. To perform Ko Uchi Makikomi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. Step forward and inside the opponent's stance with your lead leg, positioning your other leg close to their near leg. Use your leg to reap their leg from the inside, similar to Ko Uchi Gari, while simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body and falling to your side or back. The combination of the leg reap, the wrapping motion, and the sacrifice action creates a powerful takedown. These throws are sometimes known as 'pick ups' and are considered illegal in the modern judo ruleset. The ko uchi makikomi is also illegal.
