Kuzure Kami Shiho Gatame, translated as 'Modified Upper Four Quarters Hold' or 'Modified Top Pin,' is a variation of the Kami Shiho Gatame position that involves controlling the opponent from their head while using your legs to trap one of their arms. This modification adds an extra element of control and opens up additional submission opportunities. To establish Kuzure Kami Shiho Gatame, position yourself at the opponent's head, facing their feet. Secure a firm grip around their head and one arm, using your chest to pin them to the mat. Unlike the standard Kami Shiho Gatame, where your legs are free, in this variation, you use one or both of your legs to trap the opponent's other arm, typically by hooking it under your leg or using a figure-four leg lock. This modification restricts the opponent's movement further and allows you to attack the trapped arm with submissions. This is sometimes known as a 'gift wrap' position due to how the opponent is secured in this position. There is also a reverse variation.
