Soto Makikomi, known as the 'Outer Wraparound Throw,' is a sacrifice throw that combines the reaping action of O Soto Gari with a wrapping or winding motion to take the opponent down. It is typically executed by stepping across the opponent's body, reaping their outer leg, and simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body while falling to the mat. To perform Soto Makikomi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. Step forward and across the opponent's body with your lead leg, positioning your other leg behind their outer leg, similar to O Soto Gari. Use your leg to reap their leg from the outside while simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body and falling to your side or back. The combination of the leg reap, the wrapping motion, and the sacrifice action creates a powerful takedown. This throw may be considered illegal depending on the rule set and format of competition. The soto makikomi is not commonly seen in high level competition.
