Sukui Nage, commonly referred to as the 'Scoop Throw,' is a powerful hand technique that involves scooping the opponent's legs and lifting them to execute the throw. It is often used as a counter to an opponent's forward movement or when they are in a low, defensive stance. To perform Sukui Nage, establish a firm grip on the opponent's upper body, typically the collar and sleeve. As they move forward or attempt to close the distance, quickly lower your level and scoop both of their legs with your arms, wrapping them tightly. Once you have control of their legs, lift them off the ground while driving forward with your body. This combination of lifting and driving throws the opponent backward and to the mat. A less frequently seen technique due to rule changes outlawing some grips.
